Epac FC to avoid relegation

by

Epac FC coach Audrey Makonyola says his side is determined to avoid last season’s awful experience when the team was involved in relegation battle.

Makonyola spoke about last season’s struggles at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday after his side’s 1-0 victory over Wizards FC. Forward Anthony Banda converted a penalty in the 34th minute.

The Lilongwe-based side, however, survived moments of nervousness late in the game when Wizards launched series of attacks.

Wizards blew a chance to snatch a point when striker Blessings Phiri’s penalty kick was saved.

Makonyola said he was not surprised with the result having devised a proper game-plan.

“We know what sort of game they play. So we knew we had to be strong and not allow them to get in our box. We were also composed and played a passing game. My mission is to avoid what happened last season. We have to avoid such an experience,” he said.

Wizards Technical Director, Peter Mponda, refused to blame his player for failing to convert a penalty.

“A penalty is not goal. Whenever we are given a penalty it does not mean that we will score. It is always 50-50 because you can either score or not. I should just congratulate the referee who was sent to help beat us,” he said.

Epac are on position eight with 19 points from 10 games. Wizards remain on position 13 with 12 points from 11 games.
