Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) has joined calls to end attacks on people living with albinism.

MPBCB top brass were joined by Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) President, Justice Katika, during the middle-weight title fight between champion, Brian Mwando and challenger Charles Misanjo, at Robins Park in Blantyre on Saturday.

MPBCB President Lonzoe Zimba said the boxing fraternity was equally concerned with the attacks on people living with albinism.

“We denounce and condemn these horrible acts. We will work jointly with all stakeholders, including Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (Apam) in the fight against the abductions, killings and exhumation of remains of persons with albinism,” he said while accompanied by the board’s Vice- President Ben Chitenje and spokesperson Frank Chibisa.

“If this fight is to be successful, we need to report suspects to the police,” he said.

Meanwhile, the board is set to release a handbook of a code of conduct to guide boxers, promoters and match-makers.

“Through this way we will curb cases of indiscipline that are creeping into the sport. We will distribute hard copies to registered managers, who are expected to share it with their boxers so that they should know what measures we will take if they misbehave,” Zimba said.

The board has also incorporated former Maba general secretary, Mbachichi Nyirenda, to head the board’s Southern Region chapter
