Patient as they have been, Be Forward Wanderers fans have to wait a little longer to watch their Japanese import, Genki Nakamura, in action for the club.
Nakamura has recently been a constant feature on the Nomads’ bench, but he is yet to make a competitive debut for the club.
His only appearance for the club was when he made a late cameo against Nyasa Big Bullets in a friendly match a fortnight ago.
Nakamura barely touched the ball in the five minutes he was on the field of play.
Wanderers’ coach Eddington Ng’onamo said Nakamura was still not ready to make a start.
“He is unfit, therefore, he cannot be rushed into action. We will be patient with him for the time being. When the time is right, he will be given an opportunity to show what he can offer to the club,” he said.
Ng’onamo said one of the issues that contributed to Nakamura’s lack of match-fitness was the long wait for a work permit which he has since acquired.
Nakamura also arrived at Wanderers with a knee problem which seems to have been worked on at the moment.
Nakamura said he was patient enough and would wait for his chance.
“At least, I have become accustomed to the weather and have settled down well here. I am just trying to adapt to the physical aspect of Malawian football. Hopefully, I will be able to help my team do well when I get an opportunity soon,” he said.
The forward’s move to Wanderers was somewhat controversial as Silver Strikers also claimed they had an agreement with the player before he jetted into the country.
He once played for DJK Tus Hordel A-jugend in the German Second Division, Southern Steel Saigon Port of the First Division in Vietnam and Universidad Cesar Vallejo of Peru’s First Division.
Wanderers have struggled in front of goal this season and they have only managed 11 goals in eight league matches.
