Record tumbled in the TNM Super League over the weekend with an unprecedented three hat-tricks registered, whereas defending champions, Nyasa Big Bullets’ lost their invincibility.
Bullets’ 0-1 loss to Karonga United after Hygiene Mwandepeka’s goal at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday means that all teams in the league have tasted defeat this season.
The People’s Team slipped from ninth position to 10th with 12 points from seven games, while the rookies rose to the 14th place after stretching their tally to six points from nine games.
It was Karonga’s first win since being promoted to the Super League. The Kondwani Mwalweni’s side has swapped places with MTV Max Bullets who anchor the table on four points from 11 games.
Max Bullets are the only team yet to win a league game this season.
Bullets’ rivals, Be Forward Wanderers, are on position 11 with 11 points from eight games after climbing by four steps on the ladder following a 3-1 win over Red Lions at Kamuzu Stadium. It was the Nomads’ first home win.
Striker Peter Wadabwa scored a hat-trick for the Nomads on Saturday against the soldiers, who are now positioned 13th with 10 points from 11 games.
Up the table, Moyale Barracks remain on third place with 21 points from 13 games, thanks to Gastin Simkonda’s hat-trick in 5-3 win over Epac in Lilongwe on Sunday.
Simkonda’s treble overshadowed Antony Banda’s hat-trick for Epac whose three-game unbeaten run ended.
On Saturday, Silver Strikers finally went top of the table with 23 points after seeing-off Moyale 3-1 on Saturday. Blue Eagles have slipped to second with 22 points as they drew 1-1 with Mzuni over the weekend.
