Senior golfer, John Magombo, made history on Saturday when he set a new winning record of 43 points at Nchalo Golf Club in Chikwawa district.

The history of the club had 41 points as the highest score.

Magombo, who took home tailor-made golf bags and a trophy, broke the record in Bollore African Logistics golf competition that attracted 52 golfers from across the country.

“I feel good to have won with a record breaker out of many players, including seniors and juniors. I think I was drawn with a good team and also the course is in a good condition. The credit goes to Nchalo Golf Club for managing the pitch well. It is well-watered,” Magombo said.

Willy Kalonga and Ron Malikita were tied on 36 points each to finish on second and third positions, respectively following a count-back in the men’s category.

In the seniors’ category, Kingsley Mhango won with 34 points while Bashir Sharrif finished second with 30 points. Surprisingly, there were no female golfers to compete in the ladies’ category, with reports claiming they were engaged in another competition in Blantyre.

Bollore Africa Logistics out-going Country Managing Director, Roderick Phiri, described the annual tournament as a good platform that brings together their customers to thank them for their continued support.

“It is always a pleasure for us [Bollore] to be associated with our clients by breaking off from our office routine and celebrate a sporting event like golf,” Phiri said.

“The Bollore group is made up of a number of businesses- -the energy, railway, the ports, logistics and transport. So basically, we thank our customers for supporting us in these businesses, and we have also shared with them [customers] that we are rebranding by breaking down the businesses into units. They will be identified as Bollore ports, Bollore railways, Bollore transport and logistics which is our company [Ballore Malawi].”

Bollore also donated K 200,000 towards the maintenance of Nchalo Golf Club course.

Bollore has promised to continue sponsoring the event, including the Dwangwa Kasasa Open and Ladies’ Inter-club.
