Vice-President Saulos Chilima will captain Team Malawi in a charity golf tournament at Lilongwe Golf Club Saturday.
The event has been organised to raise funds for Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) which is in dire need of medical equipment.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Golf Union of Malawi President, Frank Mvalo, said the contest, dubbed The Malawi Ryder Cup, is an attempt by the golfers and the private sector to complement government’s effort so f improving health service delivery to the citizenry.
The raised funds are intended to enable KCH to purchase X-ray machines, ultra-sound scanners and blood chemistry analysers.
British High Commissioner to Malawi, Michael Nevin, will lead Team Rest of the World during the tournament.
Organisers plan to make the tournament – borrowed from the Ryder Cup competed by the Team USA and Team Europe – an annual event to benefit different noble causes.
