Central Knights basketball team of Lilongwe left for Swaziland on Monday to participate in an Invitational Basketball Tournament.
A contingent of 15 players and officials arrived in Lusaka on Monday en-route to Swaziland for the tournament to run from today to Saturday.
The Lilongwe team captain, Lucky Makonokaya, hopes to deliver the goods despite this being their debut on the international platform.
“We are representing Malawi and we are determined to leave a legacy. All the players are geared up and are ready to flourish, “Makonokaya said on Monday.
Knights open the tournament with a Group C encounter against Cameo of Zimbabwe.
Knights will also play Manzini Superstars from Swaziland and Lichocha of Lesotho.
Some 20 teams from nine countries are expected to take part in the tournament.
Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Botswana are some counties that are being represented at the tournament.
The tournament started in 2012 and is aimed at fostering relationships among Swaziland basketball teams and others in the region.
Malawi basketball is on track after G. Y Imports and Exports sent Bricks to a similar tournament in Tanzania this year.
G Y Imports and Exports also sponsored Brave Hearts basketball team’s trip to Tanzania and Zambia a few months ago.
