People’s Trading Centre, a subsidiary of Press Corporation Limited (PCL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with graft busting body Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to fight corruption and fraud.
People’s Chief Executive Officer, Ken Mthuzi, said during the signing of the MoU in Blantyre that they are facing a number of challenges which include increased fraud and corruption at its 67 chain stores across the country.
“We are losing a lot of money through fraud and corruption and as a result, it becomes increasingly difficult to grow business if there are cases of fraud and corruption. It is for this reason that we decided to partner with ACB so that we must check this vice,” said Mthuzi.
He said the company believes that working with experts will help manage and bring to an end the problem and instill a zero-tolerance culture to corruption among staff.
ACB Deputy Director, Reyneck Matemba, said corruption is an evil that must be stumped out of Malawi’s public and private sector companies if the country is to develop.
Matemba said, though the ACB is tasked with the duty of championing the fight against corruption in the country, it cannot reach all corners of Malawi as it only has presence in four cities namely Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Zomba.
“As such, we need to strike partnerships with other players such as Peoples. We believe that through such partnerships, the ACB will have presence throughout the country,” said Matemba.
