Gabadinho banks on favourite venue

When Malawi National Team striker, Gabadinho Mhango, scored a hat-trick on Tuesday in 3-0 win over Angola, he made it four goals in two back-to-back games at the Independence Stadium in Namibia.

The South Africa-based striker was the hero of the day when he scored the first hat-trick of the tournament, the first hat-trick a Malawian player has ever scored in the history of Cosafa Castle Cup.

However there is something remarkable about this venue for the Bidvest Wits-bound striker.

It was at the same venue that he scored his first Flames goal in 2013 when Malawi beat Namibia 1-0 in the 2014 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Speaking at Safari Hotel, the former Nyasa Big Bullets striker said he was happy to return to what is becoming his favourite hunting ground.

Mhango has since set a target to finish as a top goal scorer of the regional competition which winds up on June 25.

“It seems I am lucky with this stadium because last time when we came here, I also scored. This is my fourth goal playing here. I would like to follow the footsteps of those who did the same with our national team before”, Mhango said.
