Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers’ match played at Kamuzu Stadium last Sunday grossed K5.4 million, part of which will go towards Bullets’ goalkeeper Vincent Gona’s medical treatment.
Bullets’ finance and fundraising committee chairperson, Isaac Norman, confirmed yesterday that after all the expenses, including security and paying for the venue—Kamuzu Stadium, each club received K1.6 million.
Norman said they missed their target of K3.5 million required for Gona to undergo a back surgery at Beit Cure International Hospital this week. Gona has been sidelined for a year.
“We have reported to the executive committee on the shortfall and we have recommended some options on the way forward. It is either we hold other fundraising initiatives or we negotiate with the hospital to start the treatment with the money we have and then we settle the balance later,” he said.
Wanderers came from behind through Bongani Kaipa’s 23rd minute goal to cancel out Dave Ng’ambi’s second minute strike for Bullets.
