An angry mob in Phalombe Wednesday set ablaze Thuchira Estate belonging to business magnet Leston Mulli, who manages Mulli Brothers Holdings Limited, (MBL) after his security officer allegedly shot and injured a 32-year-old man.<\/p>\n
The development comes barely a month after another MBL Holdings Limited guard, Assan Juma, allegedly shot dead a teenager at Amalika in Thyolo. Juma was working at Smallholder Company.<\/p>\n
The murder prompted villagers to gang up against the guard and later killed him.<\/p>\n
Confirming the Thuchira incident in an interview with The Daily Times <\/em>yesterday, Phalombe Police Station Officer, Sikadadze Mkweche, said angry villagers from Phunduma Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mkhumba in the district razed the estate during a fracas with the farm\u2019s guards.<\/p>\n However, Mulli said he was not aware of the incident.<\/p>\n But Mkweche said the villagers raided the farm after security officials shot and injured a 32-year-old Henry Maganga from Phunduma Village. Maganga was said to be among a group of men who were burning charcoal within the estate\u2019s premises.<\/p>\n Mkweche said the situation of the victim is stable and is responding to treatment at Migowi Health Centre.<\/p>\n \u201cWe received a report that guards at Thuchira Estate have shot a man on allegations that he was cutting down trees and burning charcoal at the estate. The victim came to our offices with other well-wishers and we directed him to Migowi Health Centre for treatment. He needed some dental help because he was shot on the chin,\u201d said Mkweche.<\/p>\n And Mkweche added that the shooting provoked the villagers who invaded the farm setting it on fire in the process.<\/p>\n He said the fire destroyed the farm\u2019s shelters, stocks of pigeon peas among others.<\/p>\n \u201cThe angry mob has also gone away with some green maize which was in the field, chickens and other poultry.
