A 43-year-old Ntchisi woman, whose son developed hydrocephalus, a condition which results in the accumulation of fluid in the head, is appealing for financial assistance to help her raise the child.<\/p>\n
The woman, Lusitia Mumba, from Khwamba Village, Traditional Authority (T\/A) Kalumo in Nchisi, says she needs urgent financial and material assistance as she cannot give adequate care to the child.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe child, Tozani John, 21, was born physically well without any problem but after three months, he fell ill and his grandmother, Maness Baziyoni, 70, discovered that it was not liwombo <\/em>because his head started growing big.<\/p>\n \u201cIn 1998, I was referred to Ntchisi District Hospital then to Kamuzu Central Hospital where medical experts said the problem had developed because of having more water in the head and I was told to go home without tangible treatment,\u201d said Mumba.<\/p>\n She said she has since been to a number of hospitals but the child has not been fully treated.<\/p>\n \u201cI have nothing with which to support the child. I depend on farming and piecework and the proceeds are too little such that I cannot afford to take care of the child by myself.<\/p>\n \u201cI am so desperate since I separated from the child\u2019s father in 2008.
