{"id":9748,"date":"2015-10-05T10:22:53","date_gmt":"2015-10-05T10:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=9748"},"modified":"2015-10-05T10:22:53","modified_gmt":"2015-10-05T10:22:53","slug":"ngo-faults-cftc-appointments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/10\/05\/ngo-faults-cftc-appointments\/","title":{"rendered":"NGO faults CFTC appointments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>N<\/strong>GO Gender Coordination Network (NGO GCN) has said it is shocked with appointments President Peter Muntharika approved for Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) in which out of ten commissioners only one is a woman.<\/p>\n<p>NGO GCN Chairperson Emma Kaliya expressed worry at the development saying that it is the third time government has been sidelining women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is becoming more less like a trend where initially it was at Nation Aids Commission where no woman was appointed,\u201d said Kaliya.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is even more worrisome as this comes at a time when the issue of commissioners at the Malawi Human Rights Commission has not been addressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we raised the issue of minimal women representation in the Malawi Human Rights Commission, we expected the government to act accordingly and respect the Gender Equality Act in future appointments but it seems all our efforts are being ignored,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>NGO GCN clarifies that despite that the appointments are approved by the President, they strongly fault those that continuously present unbalanced names to him [the President], when they should be the first ones to respect the law.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGO GCN) has said it is shocked with appointments President Peter Muntharika approved for Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) in which out of ten commissioners only one is a woman.
