People of Bulambia Songwe and Kaseghe in Chitipa, who were \u2018orphaned\u2019 after the death of Senior Chief Mwaulambia three years ago, can now smile following the installation of a new Chief Mwaulambia.<\/p>\n
Born on December 28, 1968, Godwin Nyondo, a former primary school teacher, was on Monday installed Chief Mwaulambia by Chitipa District Commissioner, Grace Chirwa, at a colourful ceremony held at Nkhangwa Primary School.<\/p>\n
Chirwa said government realises and appreciates the important role chiefs play in enhancing socioeconomic development of the country.<\/p>\n
She observed that chiefs, who wield a lot of influence among their subjects, are paramount in championing development in their areas.<\/p>\n
Said Chirwa: \u201cChiefs play an enormous role in complementing government efforts in implementation of development programmes designed to promote the welfare of its citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chirwa then asked the new chief to support government development programmes in his area.<\/p>\n
The DC also advised the Chief to settle any form of disputes with the highest degree of impartiality.<\/p>\n
Said Chirwa: \u201cA leader who is trusted and respected by his subjects is the one who is very fair in settling disputes and other differences among his subjects.\u201d<\/p>\n
She warned the Chief against meddling in politics, arguing the tendency creates division among subjects which is detrimental to development.<\/p>\n
Paramount Chief Kyungu said he was impressed that people of Bulambia now have a leader.<\/p>\n
Kyungu described the wrangles over chieftaincy between the Wimbe royal family, where Redison Nyondo (Senior Chief Mwaulambia) came from and the Samphala where the new leader comes from as worrisome.<\/p>\n
Said Kyungu: \u201cIt was worrisome that people from only two royal families could fail to settle for one legitimate ruler and chose to engage in wrangles that hatched disunity among the people.\u201d<\/p>\n
