{"id":9214,"date":"2015-09-25T08:55:10","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T08:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=9214"},"modified":"2015-09-25T08:55:10","modified_gmt":"2015-09-25T08:55:10","slug":"lake-of-stars-festival-finally-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/09\/25\/lake-of-stars-festival-finally-here\/","title":{"rendered":"Lake of Stars Festival finally here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lake of Stars Festivals happens once every year along the beautiful beaches of Lake Malawi at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.<\/p>\n<p>And after waiting for long, the festival is finally here and several Malawians and tourists will from Friday through to Sunday be treated to this event which has gained the limelight not only in the country but overseas.<\/p>\n<p>With over 80 acts from 10 countries according to the festival\u2019s founder Will Jameson, people are in for a treat as they will sample different activities with music likely to dominate the proceedings once again.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst the full menu indicates that the festival starts today, the Lake of Stars Festival initially was expected to start yesterday with a community concert that is aimed at giving a chance to people surrounding Nkopola to have fun ahead of the main event.<\/p>\n<p>This is a festival which has gained the limelight and its adverts have been flying on DStv\u2019s Zambezi Magic channel. It is an event that will also see locals cashing in from different businesses including providing accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>Jameson said they are happy that the time for the festival is finally here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited for the amazing acts we have confirmed this year. Our approach was to spread across as many genres as possible and increase the diversity of our acts to ensure we entertain the different audiences that come to the festival,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lake of Stars Project Manager Patrick Garety said people also have the opportunity to engage with the community through their community outreach activities in the village.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have so many activities such as a fashion show spearheaded by Fashion Edition Malawi (FAME), sports activities and the vagina monologues theatre. And for those with kids, we have a dedicated children\u2019s area with play equipment, face painting and craft activities, plus acrobatic performances and children\u2019s theatre,\u201d said Garety.<\/p>\n<p>The organisers have since released the final line up of some of the artists performing which includes South Africa\u2019s award winning group Uhuru famed for the hit \u2018Y-Tjukutja.\u2019 Uhuru will be seeking to impress at the festival following in the footsteps of fellow SA artists Mafikizolo which did well last year.<\/p>\n<p>Uhuru will perform tonight alongside Toya Delazy also from South Africa, Anai &amp; Freak from Germany. The other artists performing today are Lawi and The Mango (HeForShe), Gwamba, Dan Lu, Donnex Muva, Lady Pace, \u2018Wired For sound\u2019 Gama Family Band, Enoch Mbewe, Shaibu and Pilirani Pitililosi, Infected Soul and Sinai, Lily Banda, Agorosso, Trappa, Body, Mind and Soul, Konkalazi, George Kalukusha as well as DJ Fosta from SA, DJ Dawee from Germany and DJs Maya and Ice from Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow the audience will sample the performances of several other artists including Nigeria\u2019s Ric Hassani, UK\u2019s Young Fathers, Zimbabwe\u2019s Mokoomba and locals Lulu, Lucius Banda, Sangie, Nepman, Mwezi Arts Children\u2019s Theatre, Tigris, Jaco Jana, Abantu Dance Group, Ndingo Brothers Band, Danny Kalima, Bucci, Yankho Seunda and Menes from DRC.<\/p>\n<p>The festival ends on Sunday with acts from among others Botswana\u2019s Zeus and locals Faith Mussa, Sonye, Takula, Sally Nyundo, Muhanya and The Dikamawoko Band, Sam Mkandawire, Dikamawoko Dance and Drumming Troupe, Patrick Simakweli, Lusibilo Band, Fumbi Jazz Band, Third Eye and Krazie G (Soul Rebel Entertainment) as well as Rainmaker.<\/p>\n<p>Jameson said with last year\u2019s festival registering over 70 acts and 4,200 attendees, an estimated 573 million international media reach, and 24 million local and regional reach, they approximately generated US$1.7 million for the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lake of Stars Festivals happens once every year along the beautiful beaches of Lake Malawi at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.
