Tnm Super League defending champions and runaway leaders, Big Bullets came from behind to open a nine-point gap when they humbled Red Lions 4-2 at Kamuzu Stadium Sunday.<\/p>\n
Goals from Chiukepo Msowoya, Chikondi Likwemba, Henry Kabichi and James Chilapondwa were enough to see off the marauding Lions, who threatened to end Bullets\u2019 unbeaten run which has now stretched to 16 games.<\/p>\n
The Peoples Team have 38 points, nine ahead of second-placed Blue Eagles, who punished Civo United 4-1 on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Watched by a huge crowd predominantly in red, yesterday\u2019s game exposed both team\u2019s defensive flaws and jittery goalkeeping.<\/p>\n
The Lions opened the scoring from an unlikely position when Kumbukani Mwambene\u2019s connection slipped through the hands and legs of Bullets goalkeeper Owen Chaima in the third minute.<\/p>\n
Kabichi could have leveled matters a minute later, but his effort was ably tamed by the visitors\u2019 goalkeeper Clement Mlombwa.<\/p>\n
Bullets eventually pulled level in the 16th minute when Msowoya headed home a set-piece from Chilapondwa who had connected a Yamikani Fodya corner-kick.<\/p>\n
Likwemba, who started in defence before being moved to midfield, capped his debut when he took advantage of a defensive mix-up to put Bullets in the lead in the 21st minute.<\/p>\n
Bullets were forced to withdraw Msowoya and Chaima due to injuries in the first half and they were replaced by Imiabo Niikiza and Chimwemwe Kumkwawa respectively.<\/p>\n
Eventually, Fodya set up another Bullets goal when his long ball was well-timed and connected by Kabichi in the 41st minute.<\/p>\n
In the second half, Lions reduced the margin after shoddy defending allowed Steve Ziba to nod home in the 65th minute.<\/p>\n
But as Lions were hunting for an equaliser, referee Ishmael Chizinga awarded Bullets a penalty after goalkeeper Mlombwa fouled impressive MacFallen Ngwira, who got the starting nod ahead Fischer Kondowe.<\/p>\n
Chilapondwa converted the spot-kick to cushion Bullets\u2019 lead. Lions\u2019 resistance was finally over.<\/p>\n
Lions coach Collins Nkuna said lapse in concentration and poor officiating cost the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe started well but we gave away silly goals. Some of the goals do not count. I think the only genuine goal was the third one,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Bullets technical director, Billy Tewesa, said it was important to maintain an unbeaten run.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were talkative. They warned us that they will end our unbeaten run but we have stopped them. In fact, they should not complain about referees because the men in black were kind to them. They could have been given a red card,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
