Tawonga Chimodzi, the only Malawian playing in a top European football league team, is yet to earn his Greek Super League debut for FC Platanias. His inactivity is a setback to the Flames.<\/p>\n
Chimodzi candidly admitted during the week that there was a dog-fight for midfield attacking positions, hence his delayed debut with the league now into round four.<\/p>\n
He fell behind the coaches\u2019 selection pecking order after spending a week in South Africa to process his visa which had expired.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been crazy because I stayed out a week from the team and had been really behind with the guys. I feel better and stronger now and training has been really good. I have been enjoying myself every week so I am just waiting on the door of opportunity to open whilst growing personally also,\u201d he said in a written response.<\/p>\n
Flames coach Ernest Mtawali has been considering inviting Tawonga, who was an unused substitute when Malawi lost 2-0 in Nigeria in 2013 during a World Cup Africa qualifier in Calabar.<\/p>\n
\u201cReturning to the squad isn\u2019t in my power and has never been to be anywhere rather it depends on who God has softened his heart to look to me as one who can provide what they need in their plans,\u201d said the prayerful midfielder on his Flames\u2019 return.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old first signed for Greek second tier league side Iraklis Psachnon in 2013 from Engen Santos of Cape Town. Tawonga joined Santos from Silver Strikers in 2007.<\/p>\n
