The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (Icam) says unethical behaviour by some accountants, particularly those involved in Cashgate has badly dented the image of the accountancy profession in the country.<\/p>\n
Icam Director of Learning and Professional Development, Tifapi Jere, has since advised all professional accountants in Malawi to be exemplary so that they can encourage all people handling financial matters to follow proper procedures.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccountants are supposed to be people who are ethically upright because they have a big role to play in making sure that Malawi\u2019s economy moves well,\u201d Jere said.<\/p>\n
He expressed the concern in Blantyre after receiving a K2 million donation from PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PWC) for Icam\u2019s forthcoming annual conference.<\/p>\n
Jere commended PWC for helping Icam in organising the conference, saying the gathering will help the accountants renew their professional vow to remain ethical.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that the professionals, who are going to meet during this conference, will assist in shaping the future of accounting in the country and make sure that what happened with the government funds will never re-occur,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
PWC Partner, Ranwell Mbene said the organisation has made the donation as part of strengthening the accountancy profession in Malawi.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccountants are there to help manage the economy better. So, we have made this donation because we subscribe to Icam\u2019s objectives. We know that accountants can transform the economic fortunes of the country,\u201d Mbene said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
