Medical Council of Malawi (MCM) Board Chairperson Professor John Chisi was last week elected Medical Association of Africa Deputy Chairperson during the association\u2019s biannual conference in Mombasa Kenya.<\/p>\n
Both Chisi and MCM confirmed the development in an interview on Tuesday, saying the election means Malawi will be at the centre of the association\u2019s medical policy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe association has its own policies where it creates its systems for medical schools, professionals and the health systems. For example, [suppose there is] a bogus doctor in Kenya. The Medical Association of Africa has its own database which we use to find out where that person comes from.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s also the issue of other countries that do not have medical councils. As an African association, we would want to participate in helping those to create their own councils,\u201d said Chisi.<\/p>\n
He said the conference was attended by over 20 African English-speaking countries, including Malawi.<\/p>\n
Chisi said the country would know the policies that are changing so fast because of being part of the management team, hence improving the local medical system.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be able to trace doctors that have worked elsewhere in Africa that are not very genuine because they are people who obtain a degree in another country and get chased due to their poor practice and go and work in another country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the issue, MCM Registrar, Abel Kawonga, said Chisi\u2019s election demonstrates that the continent has confidence in Malawi, bearing in mind that it is Chisi\u2019s first time to attend such a meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
