Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) has selected a 15-member Copa Coca-Cola squad to undergo special training at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria, South Africa.<\/p>\n
The team is expected to leave today at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe and they will camp in Pretoria for five days before returning home on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Massa spotted promising players during this year\u2019s Copa Coca-Cola School tournament that started in February.<\/p>\n
Coca-Cola senior brands manager for non-alcoholics, Titha Mbilizi, said they hope the trip would be fruitful.<\/p>\n
\u201cHPC is a sports complex that provides accommodation and state-of-the-art sporting facilities. This is a four-day camp which includes cultural exposure through interaction with other under-15s from the Southern African Region,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The local Copa Coca-Cola squad will meet opponents from Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
Mbilizi added the initiative would help youngsters develop their sports prowess and interact with sports experts from HPC.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will also participate in a regional tournament which will see the Copa Coca-Cola champions of the region crowned. All the preparations for the trip to South Africa have been done,\u201d said the senior brands manager at Carlsberg Malawi.<\/p>\n
Copa Coca-Cola this year kicked off in February, with 1,450 school teams registered. The finals took place at Balaka Stadium on August 2, where Shire Highlands Education Division won the cup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
