THE K5 million Football Association of Malawi (Fam) beach soccer cup has kicked off in playing centres of Mangochi, Chintheche, Karonga and Salima.<\/p>\n
Teams are sweating hard to secure top positions which will accord them an opportunity to participate at the national level in Salima.<\/p>\n
The regional tournaments are scheduled to run for a month. On Wednesday, Beach Soccer Malawi, general secretary, Davis Sado described the tournament as a measure of progress of the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe lack steady sponsorship from the corporate world and individuals,\u201d he, however, lamented. The tournament is the first since the beach soccer national team participated in the Cosafa Beach soccer tournament in Seychelles early this year.<\/p>\n
Sado added that: \u201cWe proved that the game is growing in style and technique and showed that Malawi stands a chance of progressing big at international level.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also explained that an expert from Fifa will come to train local coaches on modern trends of the game which is slowly gaining ground at international level.<\/p>\n
