{"id":80857,"date":"2019-07-22T10:38:36","date_gmt":"2019-07-22T08:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=80857"},"modified":"2019-07-22T10:38:36","modified_gmt":"2019-07-22T08:38:36","slug":"oxfam-targets-40000-families-in-cyclone-idai-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/07\/22\/oxfam-targets-40000-families-in-cyclone-idai-response\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxfam targets 40,000 families in Cyclone Idai response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Eric Msikiti:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The number of disaster victims being supported by Oxfam Malawi has reached 40,000, a senior official has said.<\/p>\n<p>Oxfam Malawi Country Director, Lingalireni Mihowa, said this during a tour of Phalombe District, which saw a delegation from Oxfam America and other well-wishers appreciate the extent of the damage.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cOne of the things that have come out clearly is that most Malawians who were affected by floods following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/tales-from-nsanje-aftermath-of-cyclone-idai\/\">Cyclone Idai<\/a> in some parts of the country will not be able to meet their food entitlements this year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMost of the families face hunger because their crops were washed away by water. In addition, people need access to clean water and hygiene. There is also need for assets-building as most of them lost assets and property to the floods,\u201d<\/em> Mihowa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One of the charity\u2019s supporters Jim Kraft reiterated his continued support to humanitarian work in Malawi.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAs one of the funders, I wanted to come and see how my money is being used in the country.
