{"id":80582,"date":"2019-07-16T03:36:33","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T01:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=80582"},"modified":"2019-07-16T03:36:33","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T01:36:33","slug":"youth-council-offers-k35-million-tourney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/07\/16\/youth-council-offers-k35-million-tourney\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Council offers K35 million tourney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Jarson Malowa: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77214\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77214\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/gomezgani-zakazaka.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77214\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/gomezgani-zakazaka-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/gomezgani-zakazaka-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/gomezgani-zakazaka.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77214\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gomezgani Zakazaka<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Barely days after the football fraternity was hit by the sad news of Castel Malawi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/castel-malawi-withdraws-carlsberg-cup-sponsorship\uf020\/\">withdrawal<\/a> of the Carlsberg Cup, National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCM) has offered to sponsor a K35 million tournament.<\/p>\n<p>According to a letter signed by NYCM Executive Director Dingiswayo Jere, the State-owned institution is ready to pump in the amount for a two-day tournament and is just awaiting Football Association of Malawi (Fam)\u2019s response.<\/p>\n<p>The letter states that the council applied for a licence from Fam to organise the competition, which will be called \u2018Mnyamata wa Luso\u2019 Soccer Bonanza.<\/p>\n<p>The event is part of NYCM\u2019s fundraising drive for a programme called \u2018Youth Innovation Fund\u2019.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe plan to involve soccer giants Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers, Silver Strikers and a fourth Super League team to be voted for by the public in knock-out matches that will be hosted at Bingu National Stadium [BNS],\u201d<\/em> reads part of the letter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>N Y C M Communications Officer, Kate Kujaliwa, confirmed the development, saying they are planning to host the bonanza this season after the withdrawal of the Carlsberg Cup.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cYes, I can confirm that we are in touch with Football Association of Malawi on the matter but we are not necessarily looking forward to hosting the bonanza every year; we just want to see how we can fill the gap created by the withdrawal of Carlsberg Cup sponsors,\u201d<\/em> Kujaliwa said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fam Competitions Manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, confirmed receiving the offer but said they would like to look into other issues pertaining to this year\u2019s football calendar.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cYes, we received the letter but it is not automatic that they would fill the gap left by the withdrawal of Carlsberg Cup sponsors. We need to look into this year\u2019s calendar and see if we can factor them in.
