{"id":80002,"date":"2019-07-04T03:09:55","date_gmt":"2019-07-04T01:09:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=80002"},"modified":"2019-07-04T03:09:55","modified_gmt":"2019-07-04T01:09:55","slug":"mzuni-sheriffs-reach-compromise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/07\/04\/mzuni-sheriffs-reach-compromise\/","title":{"rendered":"Mzuni, sheriffs reach compromise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Bernard Mhone:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mzuzu University and sheriffs from the Industrial Relations Court (ICR) in Mzuzu have reached an agreement on the payment mode of K32 million arrears for 15 Mzuni FC players.<\/p>\n<p>In a ruling from the court\u2019s Mzuzu District Registry, dated June 27 2019 and signed by ICR Deputy Chairperson Kingsley Mulungu, Mzuni is ordered to pay the players K32,310,000 in instalments within 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>The court also charged Mzuni sheriffs a fee of K4, 856,400.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe respondent [Mzuni] do deposit to the court an amount of twelve million kwacha from the date herein. And the respondent do pay sheriff fees and expenses if any and any goods seized in execution of the said default judgement be released upon full payment of sheriff fees,\u201d<\/em> part of the ruling reads.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Malawi Congress of Trade Unions activist Alexander Lungu said the players had agreed to receive the total amount when the university finishes paying the remaining dues in August.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe can\u2019t dispute the ruling. It is made by the court and we have to abide by it. The university started paying the money on Monday in line with what we want. The players will get the whole amount in August,\u201d<\/em> Lungu said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mzuni FC Captain Lughano Kayira said they agreed to get the total amount in the stipulated period.<\/p>\n<p>The players dragged the institution to the court over arrears for 2018 before the institution stopped bankrolling the team.<\/p>\n<p>The court\u2019s registrar, Lawrence Mtchera, delivered the default judgement on June 7 2019 ordering the institution to pay the players for breach of contract.<\/p>\n<p>Following the ruling, the sheriffs pounced on the university premises and confiscated three vehicles on June 12 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bernard Mhone: Mzuzu University and sheriffs from the Industrial Relations Court (ICR) in Mzuzu have reached an agreement on the payment mode of K32 million arrears for 15 Mzuni FC players.
