{"id":79902,"date":"2019-07-02T03:24:12","date_gmt":"2019-07-02T01:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=79902"},"modified":"2019-07-02T03:24:12","modified_gmt":"2019-07-02T01:24:12","slug":"malawi-college-of-health-sciences-students-march-over-college-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/07\/02\/malawi-college-of-health-sciences-students-march-over-college-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"Malawi College of Health Sciences students march over college closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Audrey Kapalamula:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi College of Health Sciences (MCHS) students Monday took their anger to the streets, demanding the immediate reopening of their college.<\/p>\n<p>The institution has been closed since March 2019 following an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/no-solution-to-malawi-college-of-health-sciences-strike\/\">industrial strike<\/a> among workers at the college.<\/p>\n<p>The students from all campuses of Zomba, Blantyre and Lilongwe marched to Parliament Building and Capital Hill to present a petition.<\/p>\n<p>MCHS mother union president, Iso Ken Bond, said the closure of the college was a mockery to them and the education sector.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThis is trauma to us because we have been at home for many months; so, even our calendar has been prolonged. We are supposed to train yet we are doing nothing,\u201d<\/em> he said<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He said the students would continue holding a vigil at the campus until their demands were met.<\/p>\n<p>The college was initially closed for four months last year before it was reopened.<\/p>\n<p>MCHS Board Chairperson, Kondwani Chalulu, said authorities were working tirelessly to address the matter and have the college reopened.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are trying as hard as we can. But there are a few areas that we are still not agreeing on. We still have to push on and make sure that the school reopens as soon as possible.
