{"id":79849,"date":"2019-07-01T03:51:08","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T01:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=79849"},"modified":"2019-07-01T03:51:08","modified_gmt":"2019-07-01T01:51:08","slug":"nkhoma-synod-appeals-for-calm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/07\/01\/nkhoma-synod-appeals-for-calm\/","title":{"rendered":"Nkhoma Synod appeals for calm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Audrey Kapalamula: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nkhoma Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has appealed to its faithful to be calm as the May 21 Tripartite Elections\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.times.mw\/mec-appeals-elections-case\/\">case<\/a> is being handled in court.<\/p>\n<p>The synod\u2019s deputy moderator, Reverend Leonard Katundu, made the remarks in Lilongwe Sunday during the synod\u2019s Thanksgiving Sunday.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are passing through time that, if God doesn\u2019t intervene, things will not be alright. We all know that the issue of elections is in court. If the issue is in court, the aim is to seek justice. The synod\u2019s appeal to all its followers is that we have to pray hard so that God intervenes; so that justice takes its course,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Katundu also emphasised the need for Christians to pray for the court judges\u2019 guidance and protection as well as the country\u2019s peace.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe have to pray so that peace continues in this country as we wait for the decision of the court. Let us pray for the country\u2019s peace. That is very important. If we are silent, the outcome will affect all of us,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOne thing that we have to make clear is that we should not forget that we are God\u2019s children. As we demonstrate, we should not start violence because don\u2019t forget we are the salt and the light. As we express our right, we should be responsible. We should not be destructive. Nkhoma Synod Christians should not incite violence.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The call comes as many political parties and some civil society organisations continue to take their anger to the streets, over an outcome of elections and general conduct of Malawi Electoral Commission in the elections.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi Congress Party and UTM are challenging the results of the elections at the Constitutional Court.<\/p>\n<p>Synod Moderator, Bizwick Nkhoma, said they would continue to contribute to the country\u2019s socio-economic and political development.<\/p>\n<p>The church has been operating for the past 130 years in Malawi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Audrey Kapalamula: Nkhoma Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has appealed to its faithful to be calm as the May 21 Tripartite Elections\u2019 case is being handled in court.
