{"id":79697,"date":"2019-06-27T10:25:45","date_gmt":"2019-06-27T08:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=79697"},"modified":"2019-06-27T10:25:45","modified_gmt":"2019-06-27T08:25:45","slug":"government-challenged-on-agr-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/06\/27\/government-challenged-on-agr-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"Government challenged on agr innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Samuel Kalimira: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79701\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79701\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/desborough.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-79701\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/desborough-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/desborough-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/desborough.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79701\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">TAKE RESEARCH SERIOUSLY\u2014Desborough (right)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The government has been urged to facilitate quick adoption of new farming technologies for farmers to avert climate change effects and improve productivity.<\/p>\n<p>The call was made by Tear Fund, a United Kingdom-based charity organisation working towards ending poverty in the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Tear Fund Grant Officer, Ryan Desborough, said this at Mhuju in Rumphi District after touring some development projects being implemented by Synod of Livingstonia\u2019s Development Department (Soldev).<\/p>\n<p>Soldev is implementing smart agriculture projects and teaching farmers systematic ways of curbing fall armyworms\u2019 challenges.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cLet the government and farmers take research findings very seriously because, with climate change, the findings are likely to provide lasting solutions,\u201d<\/em> Desborough said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tear Fund country Programmes Manager, Aron Lewani, commended the organisation for the initiative.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are very pleased with the conservation agriculture project which is being implemented here in Rumphi,\u201d<\/em> Lewani said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Soldev Programmes Coordinator, Richard Sulu, asked donors to consider supporting the initiative.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are calling on other partners to come forward and support a number of interventions we are implementing here in Rumphi. We believe, by doing so, we are going to make a better Malawi,\u201d<\/em> Sulu said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The project is also aimed at promoting conservation of natural resources and promoting self-help initiatives..<\/p>\n<p>Soldev is implementing the programme with funds from the Scottish government through Tear Fund.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Samuel Kalimira: The government has been urged to facilitate quick adoption of new farming technologies for farmers to avert climate change effects and improve productivity.
