{"id":79357,"date":"2019-06-20T10:33:38","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T08:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=79357"},"modified":"2019-06-20T10:33:38","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T08:33:38","slug":"music-against-malaria-raises-over-k400000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/06\/20\/music-against-malaria-raises-over-k400000\/","title":{"rendered":"Music against Malaria raises over K400,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Sam Banda Jnr:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Organisers of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/taking-malaria-head-on\/\">Music against Malaria<\/a>, an initiative spearheaded by musicians Code Sangala and Annemarie Quinn, raised K495,000 during the Tour in a Day organised on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative saw Code and Annemarie, joined by artists such as Chichiri Heritage Troupe, touring three schools in Blantyre, the last one being St Andrews.<\/p>\n<p>The money raised during the tour is set to go towards assisting Chikwawa District Pediatric A &amp; E Ward.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are thankful to the three schools for the donation they made. This will go a long way in assisting Chikwawa District Hospital. Our target is to raise K20 million and so we have lined up a couple of fundraising activities,\u201d<\/em> Annemarie said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>During the tour, students appreciated traditional dances which Chichiri Heritage performed, as well as a dosage of music from Annemarie and Code.<\/p>\n<p>The tour also saw Dr Sam Moody from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre talk about malaria.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe thought of coming up with a tour just to raise funds for this cause and we had to put together performances. Again we decided to engage a doctor at Queen Elizabeth just to interact with the students on malaria,\u201d<\/em> Code said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Code and Annemarie also signed autographs for the students.<\/p>\n<p>Music against Malaria, which is now a non-governmental organisation, has been holding performances across the country to raise funds for Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe started with Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital and now we are doing it for Chikwawa District Hospital. We intend to do it for other hospitals as well,\u201d<\/em> Code said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Recently, Music against Malaria received funds from Total Malawi and Farming Engineering Services to go towards the Music against Malaria Festival, among other activities.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Music Against Malaria in partnership with other players is set to hold the Malaria Stories Art Exhibition at Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre on June 29 2019.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are using different artistic disciplines to create awareness about malaria.
