{"id":79275,"date":"2019-06-18T04:54:47","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T02:54:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=79275"},"modified":"2019-06-18T04:54:47","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T02:54:47","slug":"coaches-body-fights-for-meke-mwase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/06\/18\/coaches-body-fights-for-meke-mwase\/","title":{"rendered":"Coaches\u2019 body fights for Meke Mwase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mabvuto Kambuwe: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi Football Coaches Association (MFCA) has asked stakeholders to support newly appointed Malawi national football team Coach Meke Mwase if he is to deliver.<\/p>\n<p>Mwase was appointed Flames\u2019 full-time mentor over the weekend after working in an interim capacity since April when Football Association of Malawi (Fam) decided against renewing Ronny van Geneugden (RVG)\u2019s contract.<\/p>\n<p>MFCA General Secretary, Davie Mpima, said local Flames coaches do not get good treatment from their employers as compared to expatriates.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAlthough remuneration differs depending on experience, qualifications and bargaining power, we would be happy if Mwase gets the kind of support that is accorded to expatriates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHe should be given a decent house, a car and packages similar to RVG\u2019s. It would be unfair to expect good results from Mwase if he does not get a good package,\u201d<\/em> Mpima said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, Mpima said the coaches\u2019 body would meet Fam Sub-Technical committee to appreciate how Mwase was selected from the list of 55 coaches who applied for the job.<\/p>\n<p>After announcing Mwase\u2019s appointment on Sunday, president Fam, Walter Nyamilandu, said the coach would have to enter into contractual negotiations with the government and complete necessary recruitment formalities.<\/p>\n<p>Nyamilandu said Mwase would also choose his own backroom staff.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Mwase\u2019s club TN Stars has extended best wishes to the trainer, saying he would remain part of the club\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n<p>The club\u2019s director, Wisdom Chimgwede, said they were not in a hurry to replace him.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are yet to get official communication on the matter but we wish Meke the best of luck. He is part of our history after helping us earn promotion to the Super League and survive relegation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe had four coaches in the system and three are still with us. They have been in charge of the team in Meke\u2019s absence on several occasions. We still trust them. Our directorate will communicate designations, if need be,\u201d<\/em> Chimgwede said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The remaining coaches are Monkey Chirwa, Mike Banda and Phillip Nyasulu.<\/p>\n<p>Mwase said he was looking forward to discussing his package with Fam and government officials.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI am yet to resign at TN Stars because there are a lot of issues which need to be sorted out. My scope of work will depend on what I agree with Fam and the government on the matter,\u201d<\/em> Mwase said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Malawi National Council of Sports acting Executive Secretary, Henry Mereka, said Fam needed to officially write the parastatal on the appointment before the matter could be taken to the government.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI have discussed this matter with Fam Chief Executive Officer [Alfred Gunda] and I am just waiting.
