{"id":79195,"date":"2019-06-17T02:50:09","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T00:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=79195"},"modified":"2019-06-17T02:50:09","modified_gmt":"2019-06-17T00:50:09","slug":"wanderers-triumph-over-soldiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/06\/17\/wanderers-triumph-over-soldiers\/","title":{"rendered":"Wanderers triumph over soldiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mphatso Malidadi: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79199\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79199\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/wanderers-kamuzu-barracks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-79199\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/wanderers-kamuzu-barracks-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/wanderers-kamuzu-barracks-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/wanderers-kamuzu-barracks-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/wanderers-kamuzu-barracks-32x32.jpg 32w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/wanderers-kamuzu-barracks.jpg 365w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79199\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">TOP TABLE CAMPAIGNERS\u2014Wanderers and KB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Be Forward Wanderers\u2019 revival in the TNM Super League continued Sunday when they beat Kamuzu Barracks (KB) 2-0 at Kamuzu Stadium to move up to third on the 16-team log table.<\/p>\n<p>Following the loss, KB dropped to second position on the table behind Blue Eagles.<\/p>\n<p>KB have 14 points from seven games while Wanderers have collected 13 points from six games.<\/p>\n<p>Wanderers assistant Coach, Oscar Kaunda, made three changes to the team that thrashed Dwangwa United 5-0 last weekend as Francis Mlimbika replaced Ted Sumani whereas Stanley Sanudi and Peter Cholopi returned from Malawi national football team duties to star for the Lali Lubani Road side.<\/p>\n<p>KB were solid and hoped to collect maximum points following their 1-0 win over debutants Ntopwa on Saturday at the same venue.<\/p>\n<p>Having lost both home and away games to Wanderers last season, the soldiers were a disaster in the making as they hardly registered a shot on target in the first-half.<\/p>\n<p>After labouring in vain for the better part of the half, Wanderers went ahead through a Francis Mkonda header following Sanudi\u2019s inviting cross in the 36th minute.<\/p>\n<p>The two teams went for recess with the Nomads leading 1-0.<\/p>\n<p>The second-half was a balanced affair with Mkonda hitting the crossbar from another header whereas KB\u2019s Manase Chiyesa saw his shot ricocheting against the crossbar.<\/p>\n<p>Wanderers extended the lead when Vincent Nyangulu breached the soldiers\u2019 defence before shooting into the net to end the match on a 2-0 scoreline.<\/p>\n<p>Mkonda was named Man-of-the-Match.<\/p>\n<p>KB Coach, Billy Phambala, conceded defeat, saying it was difficult to play two games in one weekend.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe had another difficult game on Saturday but we are determined to bounce back,\u201d<\/em> Phambala said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wanderers Team Manager, Victor Maunde, said the win underlined their intent to chase the league title.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe boys were impressive and we will continue this way,\u201d<\/em> Maunde said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In another match played Sunday, Savenda Chitipa United ended their fruitless trip to the Central Region with a 1-0 loss to TN Stars after going down 2-0 to Mlatho Mponela on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Tonic Viyuyi scored for Stars while Chitipa\u2019s Christopher Mtambo scooped the Man-of-the- Match accolade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mphatso Malidadi: Be Forward Wanderers\u2019 revival in the TNM Super League continued Sunday when they beat Kamuzu Barracks (KB) 2-0 at Kamuzu Stadium to move up to third on the 16-team log table.
