{"id":78970,"date":"2019-06-10T10:37:53","date_gmt":"2019-06-10T08:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=78970"},"modified":"2019-06-10T10:37:53","modified_gmt":"2019-06-10T08:37:53","slug":"peter-mutharika-promises-cabinet-by-june-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/06\/10\/peter-mutharika-promises-cabinet-by-june-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Mutharika promises Cabinet by June 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Jameson Chauluka: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Peter Mutharika has promised to name his 20-member Cabinet by June 21 2019 when the budget meeting of Parliament opens.<\/p>\n<p>Mutharika said this when he addressed a rally at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre Sunday to celebrate his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/peter-mutharika-re-elected\/\">re-election<\/a> on Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ticket in the disputed May 21 Tripartite Elections, which opposition parties have challenged.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI know that everyone is waiting for me to name the Cabinet but you should be patient. Doing all the background work on everybody takes time; so, all of you who have your ambitions will have to wait,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mutharika was on fire, uncharacteristically branding all his challengers as cry-babies who claim that the elections were rigged.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked Malawians for voting for him even in districts such as Nsanje and Chikwawa, where his critics did not expect him to get many votes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThey were saying that people in the DPP cannot rig the elections because they are amateurs. Amati ndi mafanatu ifeyo. Amati za technology ndikudya kwawo sitingabere chisankho koma lero akuliratu [They said we were amateurs to rig the elections but now they are crying that we rigged the elections]. I am just a lawyer and not an IT expert, so thinking that I can rig the elections is crazy,\u201d<\/em> Mutharika said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He alleged that Malawi Congress Party\u2019s (MCP) leadership was mobilising its supporters to destroy roads and schools in protest against results of the presidential poll.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe MCP people are destroying the Lilongwe- Kasiya Road which cost around K90 billion. They are destroying schools in protest against the election results. Let me say now here that I will not repair that road. I will not repair it; the MCP should repair it,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI heard someone saying he would be demonstrating until I step down but I am telling you that you will be protesting until 2024,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the MCP leadership has dismissed Mutharika\u2019s claims that the party was instigating violence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jameson Chauluka: President Peter Mutharika has promised to name his 20-member Cabinet by June 21 2019 when the budget meeting of Parliament opens.
