The Southern Region Youth Football Committee has underlined its stance on age-cheating by flushing out 40 over-aged players during a screening process that took place at BAT Ground in Blantyre on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The screening occurred ahead of the FMB Under-20 Youth Football League second round kick-off this weekend.<\/p>\n
The committee\u2019s chairperson, Dan \u2018Chemisi\u2019 Makiyi, led the screening of the teams that want to beef up. He did not reveal identities of the cheats, let alone their teams.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we had not conducted the process, we would have been compromising our own rules, otherwise the exercise has been successful,\u201d Makiyi said.<\/p>\n
According to Makiyi, his committee used birth certificates, religious and school documentation during the screening.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t rely on information from their coaches or officials because they are the ones who are always in the forefront fueling cheating,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Currently, all the teams taking part in this season\u2019s under-20 regional leagues, bankrolled by FMB, registered players that were born on January 1, 1997.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe teams may hate us for taking this path, but it has helped a lot in bringing sanity in our league and this can be evidenced by the growing number of players that the league has managed to produce and are starring for some Super League teams,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the committee\u2019s fixtures secretary, Joseph Semu- Dambo, says all is set for the second round.<\/p>\n
High-flying current leaders, Maggie Chombo-Academy FC, who are three points clear, will be the centre of attraction as they aim at maintaining top position.<\/p>\n
The team\u2019s marksman Alex Chikopa is the current top goal scorer with 16 goals, whilst Uwe Kicks FC\u2019s John Bengo is second on 15 goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
