This year\u2019s Mr. Malawi contest will be held on October 31 at Mkango Lodge in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Weightlifting and Body Building Association of Malawi (WBAM) general secretary, Harold Mwayang\u2019ana, confirmed Thursday.<\/p>\n
In June, the association announced that the contest would take place on October 25 at Robin\u2019s Park, but Mwayang\u2019ana said the change had come about following meetings with several stakeholders.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are overwhelmed with the response from several stakeholders that have expressed interest to partner us in this year\u2019s competition, and it was agreed that we should move the contest to Mkango Lodge because it is one of the city\u2019s popular entertainment hubs suitable for such an event\u201d, Mwayang\u2019ana said.<\/p>\n
He said the country\u2019s crowd-pulling reggae outfit, The Black Missionaries, are part of this year\u2019s showcase.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have pledged to help us with some money and they will also perform soon after the contest to celebrate what we want to be a colourful, well-organised and professionally-handled Mr. Malawi contest,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want this year\u2019s contest to be attractive and we are looking at increasing the prizes for the winner, runner-up as well as the third-placed contestant, but it will be premature for me to mention the amounts until we reach a mutual understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n
The WBAM GS said part of the money that will be used in the build-up to the contest is the association\u2019s subvention from government, through the Malawi National Council of Sports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
