{"id":78431,"date":"2019-05-28T03:42:36","date_gmt":"2019-05-28T01:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=78431"},"modified":"2019-05-28T03:42:36","modified_gmt":"2019-05-28T01:42:36","slug":"anisha-bashir-mkwanda-nsinji-not-discouraged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/05\/28\/anisha-bashir-mkwanda-nsinji-not-discouraged\/","title":{"rendered":"Anisha Bashir, Mkwanda-Nsinji not discouraged"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mphatso Malidadi: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Female boxing sensation Anisha Bashir and netball coach Christina Mkwanda-Nsinji have expressed optimism that it is just a matter of time before they win an award at African Union Sport Council Region Five\u2019s Regional Annual Sport Awards (Rasa).<\/p>\n<p>The pair was part of Malawi\u2019s delegation that was nominated for this year\u2019s Rasa awards in Windhoek, Namibia, where budding athlete <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/money-for-moneyi\/\">Moneyi Chingaipe<\/a> became the first Malawian to win an award after being named best junior female athlete in Southern Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Bashir got nominations in two categories but was not successful as South Africa\u2019s top athlete, Caster Semenya, walked away with both accolades.<\/p>\n<p>Semenya went on to be named Sportsperson of the Year as well as Sportswoman of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Bashir said the nomination alone was a big motivation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI just need to take my upcoming fights seriously. If I get a WBC [World Boxing Council] belt, it would give me a good chance to win a top award. But to be counted among the best in Southern Africa is still an achievement because we have many athletes that are doing well in various sports disciplines,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bashir will face World Boxing Council Silver champion, Chantelle Cameron, at York Hall in London on June 28.<\/p>\n<p>The fight is also a WBC Final Eliminator to determine the next mandatory challenger for WBC Women\u2019s World Lightweight Champion, Delfine Persoon, later in the year.<\/p>\n<p>On her part, Mkwanda- Nsinji said the nomination had given her the chance to interact with top sports personalities in the region.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cTo be considered amongst the best three in Southern Africa is no mean achievement.
