{"id":78402,"date":"2019-05-27T05:31:32","date_gmt":"2019-05-27T03:31:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=78402"},"modified":"2019-05-27T05:31:32","modified_gmt":"2019-05-27T03:31:32","slug":"who-said-we-cant-burn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/05\/27\/who-said-we-cant-burn\/","title":{"rendered":"Who said we can\u2019t burn?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mphatso Malidadi: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_76048\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76048\" style=\"width: 363px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/meke-mwase.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-76048\" src=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/meke-mwase.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/meke-mwase.jpg 363w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/meke-mwase-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/meke-mwase-298x300.jpg 298w, https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/meke-mwase-32x32.jpg 32w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-76048\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MEKE MWASE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Malawi national football team started this year\u2019s Cosafa Cup in South Africa on an impressive note by defeating Seychelles 3-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, South Africa, Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>It was a dream-start for the Flames, who failed to win any match at the last two editions of the regional competition.<\/p>\n<p>It took foreign-based players Gabadinho Mhango, Richard Mbulu and substitute Gerald Phiri Jnr to hand Flames caretaker Coach, Meke Mwase, his first win in three games.<\/p>\n<p>Mwase\u2019s first two games ended in 0-0 and 1-1 stalemates against eSwatini in the ill-fated African Nations Championship qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>The Flames\u2019 winning margin could have been wider had they taken all their chances in the match.<\/p>\n<p>The result took Malawi to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soccer24.com\/africa\/cosafa-cup\/\">top of Group B<\/a> on goal difference ahead of second-placed Namibia, who beat Mozambique 1-0 on the same day.<\/p>\n<p>Gabadinho opened the scoring in the ninth minute from what looked like a harmless free-kick that evaded Seychelles goalkeeper, Ah- Kong Ian.<\/p>\n<p>Seychelles tried to come back into the game but the Flames were tenacious in defence, with Peter Cholopi organising the backline.<\/p>\n<p>After recess, the Flames increased the lead when Gabadinho combined with Mbulu, who netted the second goal in the 78th minute.<\/p>\n<p>With four minutes to full time, substitute Chawanangwa Kawonga set up fellow substitute Phiri Jnr to wrap up the match.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi face Namibia at the same venue Tuesday, before wrapping their Group B campaign against Mozambique on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Gabadinho, who has extended his spell at Bidvest Wits for another year, said the players wanted to give Mwase his first win.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt is also good that there are several new players in the team who are combining very well. I believe the team\u2019s future is bright,\u201d<\/em> Gaba said after being named Man-of-the-Match.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mwase commended the players for their outstanding performance.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt was a very good game. I thank the boys for working hard to win this match. We asked them to score more goals so that we gain confidence ahead of the match against Namibia,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Seychelles Coach, Gavlin William Jeanne, said it was a difficult game.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt was a tough game.
