{"id":78284,"date":"2019-05-24T03:51:54","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T01:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=78284"},"modified":"2019-05-24T03:51:54","modified_gmt":"2019-05-24T01:51:54","slug":"billy-kaundas-parley-recall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/05\/24\/billy-kaundas-parley-recall\/","title":{"rendered":"Billy Kaunda\u2019s Parley recall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Richard Chirombo:<\/p>\n<p>It is so hot\u2014 the political temperature; so hot that, as someone put it the other day in another place far away from Lake Malawi, one almost expires.<\/p>\n<p>What else, other than some hot political temperature, can make my Dear Mama Justice Jane Ansah fume at confused people who are posting \u2018useless\u2019 things on social media while Malawians are waiting for results of the May 21 elections.<\/p>\n<p>And, then, there are some \u2018confused\u2019 journalists, too; the type that wants Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) officials to be \u201cdrinking\u201d coffee with some politicians, instead of keeping Malawians updated on results of Tuesday\u2019s presidential, parliamentary and Local Government elections. So \u2018mischievous\u2019 are such journalists that, just yesterday, like a primary school teacher addressing \u2018kids\u2019 that have just \u2018graduated\u2019 from kindergarten, Dear Mama had no choice but to chasten them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Tiribe nthawi yomwa khofi ife!\u201d <\/em>Dear Mama said. <em>Ha!Ha !Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!H a!Ha!Ha! <\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>When Dear Mama opened her mouth, at a filled-to-capacity Comesa Hall on May 23, all I thought was:<em> \u201cGosh, Dear Mama should not say, \u2018You, naughty kids, do not attend my press briefings again\u2019\u201d.<\/em> <em>Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!H a!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha! <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But she said the right words\u2014<em>Tiribe nthawi yomwa khofi ife!\u201d\u2014 <\/em>and I was like. <em>\u201cThat\u2019s better!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Especially when the naughty \u2018journalist\u2019 were hushed into embarrassment.<\/p>\n<p>I have recounted this story because, somehow, there is someone who has \u2018recaptured\u2019 his political scent: Billy Kaunda!<\/p>\n<p>Billy run a quiet campaign, only to outsmart one veteran politician in parliamentary elections in Mzimba District.<\/p>\n<p>Now, when Mec announces official results within the 23 days, as stipulated in electoral laws, Billy Kaunda\u2019s name will be announced.<\/p>\n<p>And Billy, perhaps forgetting that this is a political, and not artistic stage, may sing:<\/p>\n<p>Ndakumverani mumandinena\/<\/p>\n<p>Ndakumverani mumandinyoza\/<\/p>\n<p>Kodi kh<em>alidwe lanu ndi lotani\/ <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Kukonda kulimbana ndi amnzanu\/ <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Koma ndiribe nanu mulandu\/Ndiribe nanu chifukwa&#8230; <\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mec officials, enjoying the music, will more likely than not delay abit and, then, tell him: <em>\u201cStop it, Billy. This is not a stage for artists. This is for politicians.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But, then, who can blame him? Billy is excited to be back to the house he once served. I am talking of the august House. Who knows, he may even become a Cabinet minister; full-time minister and not deputy minister, this time around.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Billy, before you step on Parliament\u2019s concrete floor, shout, for the last time in the next five years, ahoi!!!!<\/p>\n<p><em>Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!Ha!
