{"id":78136,"date":"2019-05-20T03:24:01","date_gmt":"2019-05-20T01:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=78136"},"modified":"2019-05-20T03:24:01","modified_gmt":"2019-05-20T01:24:01","slug":"civic-educator-backs-election-situation-room","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/05\/20\/civic-educator-backs-election-situation-room\/","title":{"rendered":"Civic educator backs election situation room"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Audrey Kapalamula: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Public Trust is confident that the election situation room it has created will help stakeholders track election-related issues and add credibility to the process.<\/p>\n<p>The trust\u2019s acting monitoring and evaluation officer, Peter Maluwa, said yesterday that stakeholders would also be able to intervene, thereby adding sanity to the electoral process.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIdeally what we will be doing in the election room is to collect data from polling centres in real time. We have employed 462 observers who will be reporting on how elections are being managed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe will also have 5,002 monitors at each and every station. The essence is to support Mec [Malawi Electoral Commission] by ensuring that the elections are fair and credible. People have a right to information,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The situation room has been established in collaboration with Mhub.<\/p>\n<p>He added that data analysed would be fed into a broader report on how the May 21 Tripartite Elections were conducted.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThere is an intervention desk in the situation room comprising people from the police [Malawi Police Service], Mec and political parties who will be told how to liaise with other stakeholders depending on the situation on the ground,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Maluwa added that observers would be sending pictures of result-sheets to the centre for analysis and interpretation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Audrey Kapalamula: National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Public Trust is confident that the election situation room it has created will help stakeholders track election-related issues and add credibility to the process.
