The other semi-final match will involve Karonga United and Mzuni FC.

Just like frightened dogs with their wagging tails between the legs, Wanderers players and fans trooped out of the facility crest-fallen.

With Albert Mpinganjira in charge of the sinking ship in interim capacity following the dismissal of his elder brother Bob, Nomads’ hopes were dashed after Silver winger Duncan Nyoni’s intelligent 39th minute goal.

Nyoni was given plenty of time inside the box and made no mistake to put the ball beyond Wanderers goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa’s hands.

After the goal, the Nomads needed two away goals to overturn the tables but they failed to break Silver’s defence in this balanced affair of few scoring chances.

Earlier, Silver suffered a setback when midfielder Levison Maganizo was stretchered off due to injury.

However, the opening chance of the game fell to Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju three minutes into the game, but he failed to connect Francisco Madinga’s pass, much to the disappointment of Nomads fans.

The two teams went for recess with the hosts leading 1-0.

After recess, Nyoni was a constant threat to the Nomads, forcing Chipuwa to make another save.

Sensing danger, Wanderers introduced Mischeck Bottoman for Zicco Mkanda whereas Nigerian Raphael Udha replaced Alfred Manyozo Junior, before Madinga paved the way for Peter Katsonga.

But the move did not pay dividends as the Nomads struggled to break Silver’s rock-solid defence which comprised Yinusa Sherrif, Herbert Wayenkha and Trevor Kalema.

In a post-match interview, Silver Team Manager, Itai Nundwe, said: “We are proud of our players’ fighting spirit. We knew that Wanderers had hope of overturning the tables but our players did well to safeguard the lead.”

Manyozo said the players were to blame for the loss.

“We had an early chance to change the complexion of the game but we missed it.
