Silver exited the Carlsberg Cup after Saturday’s semifinal loss to Bullets.

“It’s a mutual termination. Both parties agree not to continue with the relationship. We have roped in Young Chimodzi Snr for five months up to December. He will, subject to ongoing discussions, be assisted by Mr. Lovemore Fazili,” Kalonga stated.

Chirwa’s former assistant, Peter Mgangira, confirmed receiving dismissal letters on Tuesday alongside deputy coach, Itai Nundwe.

“There are no bitter feelings. Absolutely none. As a coach, you need to prepare for such things. I know I am still young with a lot of things to learn. My thinking is that when one door closes, another opens,” Mgangira insisted.

However, fired team manager, Francis Songo, yesterday feigned ignorance of the dismissal.

Chirwa, who won Standard Bank Knock-Out Trophy and TNM Super League while at the helm in two years, seemed certain about his Silver exit during Saturday’s post-match interviews.

“I was employed. I am not a life coach. Well, in football coaches get fired. If they decide to fire me, well and good. I wouldn’t say this is my last game in football. You know what happens in football. I can get another job. Anything can happen,” he insisted.

Apart from exiting the Carlsberg Cup following the loss to the Bullets on Saturday, Silver’s league title hopes are also remote as they sit eighth on 20 points having lost six games in the first round.

Chirwa attributed the slump in form to a lack of depth in playing personnel following the exodus of players such as Chawanangwa Kawonga, Lameck Kachimanga, Frank Banda, Charles Swini and Young Chimodzi Jnr.

Young Chimodzi senior, who has been linked to the Silver job, yesterday admitted that the club’s management had pleaded with him to temporarily step in for Chirwa.

“We have not finalised anything though. I was reluctant, but I eventually accepted because they invested a lot in me as a coach and player,” the former Flames coach explained.

Silver Strikers’ executive committee has fired Stan Chirwa-led coaching panel; days after the Bankers hit this season’s low following an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Big Bullets at the Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
