The country\u2019s major football academy, Surestream, re-opens its doors in the first week of September after a prolonged break that lasted over two months.<\/p>\n
The academy had suspended its activities after its former technical director, Peter Mponda, resigned and took with him the main team which he re-registered as Fisd Wizards.<\/p>\n
However, the academy\u2019s publicist, Linda Gombera- Chiume, on Tuesday said the academy was now ready to continue its goals of developing grassroots\u2019 talent.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still in the restructuring process. We are trying to put things in place because so many things happened and some were not properly done. When the schools are opening Surestream will be opening its doors as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of the academy\u2019s players are under- 18, therefore we want their parents to sign consent forms so that they should be aware of every update at the academy. This will also help in safeguarding the future of the players because their parents or guardians will help them in decision making.\u201d<\/p>\n
The academy\u2019s operations manager, Patrick Kulemeka, said they had established a high performance talent development plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis involves both the football and academic components. We want the players to excel both in football and their education, therefore we will closely monitor their progress on both fronts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kulemeka said they went on a scouting mission and got 12 players from the Inter- City Under-14 tournament and another 12 players from the Massa Under-15 Copa Coca-Cola League.<\/p>\n
