Renowned musician, dancer and event organiser Wendy Harawa on Sunday was all smiles as she scooped an award during the grand finale of the Maranatha Global Worship Music Awards (MGWMA) held in Kenya.<\/p>\n

Wendy, who is now into gospel music, was nominated for her song \u2018Chisomo\u2019, a collaboration with Nigerian artist Jimmy D Psalmist and Lulu.<\/p>\n

It is a worship song that speaks volumes of the power of God.<\/p>\n

The singer was nominated in two categories \u2013 Outstanding Petition\/Supplication Song of Excellence and Outstanding Collaboration Song of Excellence.<\/p>\n

Wendy missed out on the Outstanding Collaboration Song of Excellence which went to \u2018Umejua Kunifurahisha\u2019 by Joel Lwaga and Minister Chris Shalom but claimed the Outstanding Petition\/ Supplication Song of Excellence.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I got both but I am happy I managed to get one. It means a lot to me; the award has motivated me to do more. Again the award is special in that I was the only artist from Malawi, who made it to the grand finale. So this is all for Malawi,\u201d<\/em> Wendy said on Sunday soon after receiving the award.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She said, through her triumph, Malawi had been put in the spotlight in the awards this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe awards had over 10 countries represented and so it\u2019s not a small event. I actually met one of Zimbabwe\u2019s top gospel artists Minister Michael Mahendre, who I will be working with soon, and Levixone, another massive talent from Uganda,\u201d<\/em> Wendy said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She said there would be interactions between artists from the three countries \u2013 Zimbabwe, Malawi and Uganda.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was overwhelmed to have the chorus of \u2018Chisomo\u2019 and \u2018Mundisunge Ndinu\u2019 being sang by the audience. It is all God doing wonders,\u201d <\/em>the musician said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She wrote on her Facebook page that she was thankful to God for the award.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank my mother Olive Harawa, my spiritual parents Shepherd Bushiri and Prophetess Mary Bushiri, for introducing me to Jesus and Jimmy D Psalmist,\u201d<\/em> Wendy said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For her to make it to the top 15, people had to vote for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really don\u2019t know how I got nominated. I believe it is by God\u2019s grace that the song got the nod. They got my contacts before they communicated to me,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The award has come at the right time for her as she gears to launch her debut gospel album Mundisunge Ndinu <\/em>at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on June 1 2019.<\/p>\n

Wendy has dropped three singles off the album and they include \u2018Hossana\u2019 and \u2018M\u2019busa Wanga\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
