After contacting the association on several occasions, we decided to form a network of Super League clubs to join forces in presenting our grievances. Our expectation is that, that, before signing new contracts with broadcasters, they should square what they owe us,” Yobe said.

Bullets Chief Administrative Officer, Albert Chigoga, said they officially approached Fam to demand their cut.

“We approached Fam formally to remind them that we are looking for our broadcasting rights payment. We, as clubs, are entitled to a cut from broadcasting rights. After noting the silence from Fam, we thought it wise to continue pursuing the matter until we get paid,” Chigoga said.

He said there has not been any ultimatum on the matter, insisting that they have taken a cordial approach and expect the association to act professionally.

Fam Commercial Director, Limbani Matola, described the matter as complex, saying it needed contact and dialogue.

Matola said there is need to resolve it amicably without disrupting the cordial relationship existing between stakeholders.

“We are yet to make payments because the money is still trapped elsewhere, including media houses. We also know how difficult it can be for media houses to get advertisement money from their clients.

“Knowing the complexity of the issue, there is need for patience and understanding. But it is just a matter of time before the teams get their share,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda and his Competitions and Media Director Gomezgani Zakazaka have promised to present a detailed report soon.

The report will also state how much media houses owe the association.

By Mphatso Malidadi: Top Super League clubs have formed a network with the aim of taking Football Association of Malawi (Fam) to task over its failure to remit broadcast rights proceeds from last year’s competitions.
