Jana was still working without a contract.<\/p>\n<p>Jana, who joined the parastatal in 1989 as Technical Developmental Officer, Wednesday confirmed receipt of the letter from the government that his contract will not be renewed.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cLife goes on but I am leaving Sports Council with several unfinished projects such as Kamuzu Institute for Sports [renovations], preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games and others. But I am sure my successor will continue the projects,\u201d<\/em> he said, adding that the government did not specify the reasons for not renewing his contract.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The ministry\u2019s spokesperson, Christina Mkutumula, Wednesday said MNCS Administration Manager, Henry Mereka, has replaced Jana in an interim capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Over 40 affiliate sports associations, including Football Association of Malawi (Fam), Netball Association of Malawi (Nam), Basketball Associations of Malawi and Volleyball Association of Malawi receive grants from the government through the council.<\/p>\n<p>Fam General Secretary (GS), Alfred Gunda, whose association receives a lion\u2019s share of the grants, reserved his comment on Jana\u2019s exit from MNCS.<\/p>\n<p>Nam GS, Carol Bapu, said they would miss Jana because of the role he played in conflict resolution in sports circles.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cMr Jana made sure that Nam got funding from the government even when our allocation of funding had been exhausted. He was also key in resolving disputes, be it among Nam officials or with other stakeholders.
