We also produced identity cards for the candidates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe have been assured by district education managers in areas where floods occurred, that classrooms are now free and that the floods survivors have vacated the classrooms, making them useable for the examinations,\u201d<\/em> Chiwaya said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She said among the candidates, 152,000 are males, 146,000 females while 1,924 are special needs candidates.<\/p>\n<p>The special needs candidates have been categorised into groups comprising learners of braille, large print and those who use other body parts.<\/p>\n<p>Chiwaya said the government has provided allowances for all people who will administer the examinations.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 20,356 schools were affected by floods in six districts in March 2019.<\/p>\n<p>A situation report indicates that the floods disrupted learning in 139 schools in Chikwawa Nsanje, Mulanje, Phalombe, Zomba and Machinga districts.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, 279,084 candidates sat the examinations out of which 210,324 learners passed.\u2014<strong>Additional reporting by Jameson Chauluka<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Audrey Kapalamula: Some 298,000 learners are today expected to start sitting this academic year\u2019s Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations.
