{"id":7754,"date":"2015-08-19T08:56:49","date_gmt":"2015-08-19T08:56:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=7754"},"modified":"2015-08-19T08:56:49","modified_gmt":"2015-08-19T08:56:49","slug":"ethco-to-support-sugarcane-farmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/08\/19\/ethco-to-support-sugarcane-farmers\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethco to support sugarcane farmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 1,000 sugarcane growers in Traditional Authority Mphonde in Nkhota-Kota district stand to benefit from Ethanol Company Limited\u2019s Raw Materials project which aimed at providing additional molasses for ethanol production.<\/p>\n<p>Ethanol Company Limited (Ethco) general manager, Lusubilo Chakaniza, told journalists during a media tour of the ethanol plant recently that the company, a subsidiary of conglomerate Press Corporation Limited (PCL), plans to increase its production in anticipation of a growth of the fuel ethanol market through the implementation of the national Ethanol Driven Vehicle programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been operating at half capacity because of the inadequacy of the main raw material, molasses, which we source from Dwangwa\u2019s Illovo Sugar mill,\u201d said Chakaniza.<\/p>\n<p>She said when the sugar milling season ends, the company is forced to shut down the distillery due to lack of enough molasses for the production of ethanol.<\/p>\n<p>Chakaniza said the company has embarked on the raw materials project to allow farmers grow sugarcane using efficient farming methods to maintain high cane yields and enable them maintain favorable returns on their cane farming business.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure that the cane farming business is implemented effectively, Ethco is assisting farmers to obtain low cost funding for the development of their farms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 1,000 sugarcane growers in Traditional Authority Mphonde in Nkhota-Kota district stand to benefit from Ethanol Company Limited\u2019s Raw Materials project which aimed at providing additional molasses for ethanol production.
