Malawi Congress Party president, Lazarus Chakwera, has claimed that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-led administration has misappropriated K1 trillion in five years.<\/p>\n

However, DPP has dismissed Chakwera\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n

Chakwera was speaking at a rally he addressed at Njamba Freedom Park Sunday in Blantyre, alongside People\u2019s Party (PP) president Joyce Banda and Freedom Party leader Khumbo Kachali.<\/p>\n

Chakwera said all the DPP administration knows is stealing public resources and paying little attention to important issues such as the killing and abduction of persons with albinism.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut what Malawi Congress Party knows is making sure that the quality of education improves, improving health services and quality of life,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi dismissed Chakwera\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n

We are going into the last phase of the elections and Chakwera will say all sorts of things because he is desperate to get into government. It is not correct and I don\u2019t want to glorify his political tantrums,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Chakwera pledged to construct what he called Joyce Banda International Convention Centre, with the capacity of 6,000 people, where Kamuzu Stadium lies.<\/p>\n

He said he would construct Blantyre District Hospital and a national stadium, with various sports amenities, at the park.<\/p>\n

Chakwera also promised to, once elected president, change the official working schedule from 7:30am to 8:30am, saying most parents struggle to take their children to school then make it to work in time.<\/p>\n

Speaking earlier, former president Banda also alleged that huge sums of money have been stolen in government during the DPP-led administration.<\/p>\n

Banda said it was only during her rule that top government officials were arrested on corruption charges.<\/p>\n

She urged Chakwera to make it a point to end urban and rural poverty.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur poverty alleviation measures include people in towns and villages. You should also remember the youth. Some of these boys are failing to marry because they have nothing,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
