{"id":77359,"date":"2019-04-29T09:38:35","date_gmt":"2019-04-29T07:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=77359"},"modified":"2019-04-29T09:38:35","modified_gmt":"2019-04-29T07:38:35","slug":"hat-trick-for-tabitha-chawinga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/04\/29\/hat-trick-for-tabitha-chawinga\/","title":{"rendered":"Hat-trick for Tabitha Chawinga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mabvuto Kambuwe:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi national women\u2019s football team Captain, Tabitha Chawinga, scored a hat-trick as she inspired her Chinese team Jiangsu Suning to a 6-0 victory over Wuhan in a league match on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Tabitha also provided two assists for the team during the game.<\/p>\n<p>The former DD Sunshine icon is set to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goal.com\/en-sa\/news\/tabitha-chawinga-is-chinese-women-super-league-player-of-the\/8faj0azomp1b177qg96bjwu75\">retain<\/a> the Golden Boot Award this season as she tops the scorers\u2019 chart with 16 goals.<\/p>\n<p>Tabitha said she was working hard to retain the top scorer award.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI thank God that I am doing well. I want to help my team win more silverware as I target the Golden Boot Award,\u201d<\/em> Tabitha said in an interview from her base in China.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tabitha was part of the She-Flames squad which demolished Mozambique 14-1 on aggregate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi assistant Coach, Andrew Chikhosi, heaped praise on Tabitha, saying the She-Flames will greatly benefit from her top form.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cTabitha is one of the best strikers in the world and I am not surprised with her achievement on the international stage. She still has more to offer in the game as she continues doing us proud,\u201d<\/em> Chikhosi said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Tabitha finished as the top scorer in her debut season in China with 17 goals, seven above runner-up Asisat Oshoola of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>She also won the Player of the Year award in the Asian nation after joining Suning from Krokom\/Dvassatts and IK Kvarnsvedens in Sweden, where she played for three years.<\/p>\n<p>She established herself as a top player in the European country after winning two golden boot awards.<\/p>\n<p>For two consecutive years, Tabitha has been earning nominations for Confederations of African Football\u2019s Woman Footballer of the Year awards but has never made it into the top three.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mabvuto Kambuwe: Malawi national women\u2019s football team Captain, Tabitha Chawinga, scored a hat-trick as she inspired her Chinese team Jiangsu Suning to a 6-0 victory over Wuhan in a league match on Saturday.
