The recruited nurses have reported for work. As you might recall, we issued a statement where the Ministry of Finance gave us extra resources to recruit more nurses and this is the group we have recruited,\u201d<\/em> he said<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Malango said the other nurses would be recruited through the Local Government Service Commission which is responsible for recruiting nurses and other health workers for district hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>National Organisation for Nurses and Midwives Executive Director, Shouts Simeza, commended the government for the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Simeza, however, said the figure of recruited nurses is lower than the vacancy rate in central hospitals.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are also aware that the Local Government Service Commission is also recruiting for district hospitals but, still more, the figures are on the lower side. We will continue to negotiate with the government and other stakeholders that are involved so that the number should increase for Malawians to receive quality care from a number of midwives and technicians, and not from a few,\u201d<\/em> he said<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Recently, a group of qualified but unemployed nurses <a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/nurses-pressure-government\/\">protested<\/a> against the government\u2019s failure to recruit them on permanent basis.<\/p>\n<p>The group gave President Peter Mutharika 30 days to offer them employment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Audrey Kapalamula: The government, through the Ministry of Health and Population, has recruited 371 nurses for central hospitals in the country.
