We also gave them the assurance that we will support them to host this big tournament in the country,\u201d<\/em> Jana said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, said, during its recent meeting, the association\u2019s executive committee also approved hosting of the showpiece.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are making progress after our Executive Committee approved the decision to host the event. We are pleased that Sports Council has also given us the go ahead,\u201d<\/em> Gunda said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The government approval is crucial for associations to host any tournament in their respective countries. Zimbabwe Football Association pulled out of hosting this year\u2019s Cosafa senior tournament after failing to get their government\u2019s guarantee.<\/p>\n<p>This threw the 2019 competition into doubt until the South African city of Durban stepped in to save the situation.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament kicks off on May 25 and ends on June 8.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the requirements for hosting the competition are availability of at least two stadia, training facilities, provision of security at all matches and at hotels where teams will be lodging as well provision of medical facilities such as fully fledged ambulances.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers also require the presence of a big hospital within the radius of 20 kilometers from venues of games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mabvuto Kambuwe: The government has given Football Association of Malawi (Fam) the go-ahead to host this year\u2019s Under-17 Cosafa Youth Championship slated for September.
