{"id":76995,"date":"2019-04-18T04:23:38","date_gmt":"2019-04-18T02:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=76995"},"modified":"2019-04-18T04:23:38","modified_gmt":"2019-04-18T02:23:38","slug":"referee-kwimbira-nzika-makes-world-cup-grade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2019\/04\/18\/referee-kwimbira-nzika-makes-world-cup-grade\/","title":{"rendered":"Referee Kwimbira-Nzika makes World Cup grade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>By Mphatso Malidadi: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Malawi\u2019s top First Assistant Referee, Bernadetter Kwimbira-Nzika, has been selected to be among 47 referees to officiate at this year\u2019s Fifa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fifa.com\/womensworldcup\/\">Women\u2019s<\/a> World Cup in France.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time for Kwimbira- Nzika to handle the world showpiece, having officiated at the 2015 World Cup in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Referees Development Officer, Maxwell Mtonga, said he was not surprised with the development as Kwimbira- Nzika has been consistent.<\/p>\n<p>Mtonga said Kwimbira- Nzika is among seven assistant referees from Africa that have been selected for the world event.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are proud of her because to be among the seven from Africa is not a joke. She will be among 47 referees in the world to handle the games. We are really inspired by her feat,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mtonga asked other referees to adopt Kwimbira- Nzika\u2019s attitude and work ethic to astonishing results.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe are really inspired and she has done Malawi proud. Let other referees borrow a leaf from her. She is able to achieve this because of discipline and staying fit all the time,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2016, Kwimbira- Nzika became the first Malawian female referee to officiate at the Olympics.
